The Administrator of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Mr. Paul Adjei, led a four-day field monitoring exercise in the Ashanti Region from 14 to 17 October 2026. The team inspected sampled education infrastructure projects at selected senior high schools and three units of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The Ashanti visit is the first leg of a wider tour that also covers selected sites in the Bono East and Bono regions.

The exercise was designed to verify the physical progress of GETFund-financed projects, assess the quality of work delivered by contractors, and engage contractors and consultants directly on site about progress and challenges. It also aimed to encourage timely completion, so that new facilities reach schools and communities without avoidable delay. The projects inspected include classroom blocks, dormitories, dining halls with kitchens, library and ICT blocks, administration blocks, assembly halls and staff accommodation.
Four of the projects monitored were at finishing stage. They are the Teaching Hospital Administration Block (Phase 1) and the Veterinary Medicine Building Complex at KNUST, the 3-storey, 48-unit classroom block at J.A. Kuffour SHS in Sokoban, and the 40-unit classroom block at KNUST SHS, which has been sectionally completed. The J.A. Kuffour 48-unit classroom is the largest classroom block among the projects visited in the region.

A middle group of projects is rising above ground level. Boys’ dormitories at Parkoso Community Day SHS and Bosomtwe Oyoko Community Day SHS have reached first-floor level, and an 18-unit classroom block at Ibadur Rahman Islamic Community Day SHS is at second-floor level. At Konadu Yiadom Catholic SHS in Sekyere South, a 2,500-capacity dining hall with kitchen has reached roofing stage, while a staff bungalow at the school is at gable level.
Nine projects were still at substructure stage. They include a classroom block, a dining hall and a library and ICT block at Onwe SHS, as well as facilities at Parkoso, Sakafia Islamic SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls SHS and Effiduase Senior High Commercial School. Four more projects, at Juaben SHS, Konadu Yiadom Catholic SHS and Adu Gyamfi SHS, were at ground-floor level. Continued supervision will be needed to move these early-stage projects forward and to bring the finishing-stage projects to handover.
The monitoring exercise continues in the Bono East and Bono regions from 19 October 2026.
