Legendary Ghanaian footballer Malik Jabir has announced his readiness to return and settle in Wa to help elevate football in the Upper West Region.

The former Black Stars captain paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Upper West Regional Football Association (RFA) on Monday, 24th November 2025, where he outlined his plans to develop the region’s football landscape.

Jabir, who played for Asante Kotoko during the 1964/65 season and represented the national team in 1967, captaining the squad in 1969, expressed concern over the minimal impact he has had on football in his native region.

Speaking to some executive committee members and local club representatives at the RFA offices, he admitted, “I often wonder why I haven’t contributed to Upper West football the way I did for Kotoko and the Black Stars. It worries me so much that I can’t even sleep.”

The former captain emphasized his commitment to using his experience to help Upper West secure a team in the Premier League.

“I want to organize the players, polish the teams, and develop young talent to put Upper West football on the national map,” he said.

Jabir also revealed plans to introduce coaching manuals, improve technical knowledge among players, and mentor upcoming footballers in the region. His goal is to ensure that local teams are better prepared and more competitive at all levels.

The visit has been warmly received by the RFA and local clubs, with officials expressing optimism that Jabir’s involvement could mark a turning point for football development in the Upper West Region.
