Telecommunication giants MTN Ghana successfully hosted “Bright Conversations: From Compliance to Opportunity – Embedding ESG in Business”* as part of its Sustainability Week celebration. The event brought together industry experts to discuss the strategic integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in modern business practices, transforming these from mere compliance obligations into valuable growth opportunities.
Held at MTN House and accessible virtually via Microsoft Teams, the session attracted a diverse audience eager to understand the role of ESG in enhancing business resilience and driving positive societal impact.
Moderated by Emefa Apawu, a respected media figure, the discussion featured a panel of celebrated experts. Dr. Felix Addo-Yobo, Deputy Director and Advisor at the SDGs Advisory Unit in the Office of the President, highlighted the importance of aligning business practices with national sustainable development goals. He emphasized that ESG compliance is essential for businesses to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development agenda.
Bernard Owusu Ansah, Manager of Governance, Risk, and Compliance at KPMG, shared insights on how ESG frameworks help businesses manage risks and enhance corporate governance. He noted that effective ESG strategies can strengthen a company’s operational resilience and build stakeholder trust.
Mina Pokuaa Agyemang, Participant Engagement and Outreach Manager at the UN Global Compact – Ghana, focused on the role of stakeholder engagement in successful ESG implementation. She emphasized that aligning with global ESG standards not only bolsters reputation but also opens doors to international partnerships and investment opportunities.
The discussion underscored that ESG is no longer just a regulatory requirement but a strategic tool for creating long-term value.
