During his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, former President John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasized his commitment to empowering women and fostering economic development. Speaking to enthusiastic supporters in constituencies such as Wechau, Goripie, Daffiama, Charia, and Kpongu, Mahama outlined several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of women while also driving broader economic growth in the region.
Mahama highlighted the importance of creating an enabling environment for women to thrive in business. He announced plans to establish a 24-hour economy initiative specifically designed to support women entrepreneurs. This initiative will include providing access to financial resources and business training, helping women manage their businesses more effectively. “We need to ensure that our women have the tools they need to succeed in their ventures,” he stated, underscoring the role of women in driving economic development.
In addition to financial support, Mahama pledged to establish a Women’s Bank aimed at providing tailored banking services and loans for women. This bank would focus on offering favorable interest rates and flexible repayment terms to facilitate business growth among women. “A dedicated Women’s Bank will help empower our women, ensuring they have access to the funds necessary to expand their businesses and create more jobs,” he explained.
Mahama’s focus on women’s empowerment is grounded in a broader vision for economic development in the Upper West Region. He articulated a comprehensive strategy that includes not only financial assistance for women but also investments in infrastructure and job creation. By fostering an environment conducive to business growth, Mahama believes his administration can stimulate the local economy and improve the standard of living for all residents.
Furthermore, Mahama addressed the challenges faced by women in accessing education and healthcare. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that women have equal opportunities to pursue higher education and vocational training, which are essential for building successful careers. He mentioned that his administration would continue to support policies that promote women’s access to education, as this is critical for empowering future generations.
In his concluding remarks, Mahama urged the people of Upper West to rally behind the NDC in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that a vote for the NDC is a vote for progress and empowerment. “Together, we can build a brighter future for our women and our communities,” he said, calling for massive support for both himself and the NDC parliamentary candidates.
With a clear focus on women’s empowerment and economic development, Mahama’s campaign is resonating with the people of Upper West. His promises to establish supportive initiatives and create a conducive environment for business development signal a commitment to tackling some of the region’s most pressing challenges and uplifting its residents.
