MTN Ghana, in its continuous commitment to corporate social responsibility, organized and funded a regional blood donation exercise in the Upper West Region to commemorate this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration. The initiative, which was strategically dispersed across four centers, yielded a total of 203 pints of blood for the Upper West Regional Blood Bank, significantly contributing to life-saving efforts in the region.
The donation drive took place at Wa Senior High Technical School, Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS), Jirapa Senior High School, and Islamic Senior High School. These institutions served as key collection points, attracting students, faculty members, and community volunteers eager to participate in this humanitarian effort.

Speaking at the event, representatives from MTN Ghana emphasized the importance of blood donation in saving lives, particularly in emergency cases such as maternal complications, accidents, and surgical procedures. They noted that the initiative was part of MTN’s annual “Save a Life” campaign, which seeks to encourage voluntary blood donation while reinforcing the company’s dedication to health and wellness in the communities it serves.
Health professionals from the regional health directorate and the Ghana Health Service supervised the donation process, ensuring that all safety protocols were strictly adhered to. Donors were educated on the benefits of blood donation, including the replenishment of blood cells, improved cardiovascular health, and the opportunity to contribute to a noble cause.

The turnout at all four centers was impressive, reflecting a growing awareness and willingness among residents to support healthcare initiatives. A total of 203 pints of blood were collected, a significant boost to the regional blood bank, which often faces shortages in supply.
Students and donors who participated in the exercise also shared their excitement about the opportunity to contribute to saving lives. Many expressed their willingness to become regular blood donors, recognizing the immense impact of such a simple yet vital act.
MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining similar initiatives in the future, ensuring that healthcare institutions in the region receive the necessary support to enhance service delivery. The company urged the public to embrace voluntary blood donation, emphasizing that a single pint of blood could be the difference between life and death for someone in need.

The Valentine’s Day blood donation drive in the Upper West Region stands as a testament to the power of corporate social responsibility in addressing critical healthcare needs. By fostering a culture of blood donation, MTN Ghana continues to make meaningful contributions to the well-being of the communities it serves.
