Ghana Football Association and Enterprise Life Launch Groundbreaking Referee Insurance Policy

In a major breakthrough for Ghana’s football ecosystem, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has partnered with Enterprise Life to launch a comprehensive insurance policy for referees. The initiative, which fulfills a pledge made by GFA President Kurt Okraku during the 31st Ordinary Session of Congress in Prampram, marks a historic shift towards improved protection for match officials across the Premier League, Division One League, and Women’s Premier League.

The policy, which covers 280 referees, includes Group Life Cover, Critical Illness Protection, Permanent Disability Compensation, Medical Expenses Support, and Workmen’s Compensation. Additional benefits extend to spouses, children, and parents, along with funeral assistance, underscoring Enterprise Life’s holistic approach to welfare.

According to GFA President Kurt Okraku, the policy represents “a comprehensive welfare intervention designed to support, protect, and empower our referees across all domestic competitions.” He described the milestone as “a significant moment in the journey of our football,” highlighting the critical role referees play in sustaining fairness in the game.

Top referee Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea, set to officiate at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing the policy as “too good to be true.” He thanked GFA President Kurt Okraku and Enterprise Life for introducing a scheme that finally recognizes the demands placed on officials.

The partnership between the GFA and Enterprise Life signals a transformative era for officiating in Ghana, blending administrative vision with corporate excellence. With improved protection, motivation, and welfare, Ghana’s referees can now step into the future with renewed confidence, backed by an insurance framework designed to match the demands of the beautiful game.

This groundbreaking initiative sets a precedent for football associations across Africa, demonstrating a commitment to the well-being and development of referees. As Ghana’s football ecosystem continues to evolve, the GFA and Enterprise Life’s partnership is poised to have a lasting impact on the sport.
