Accra, September 30, 2025 — The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has projected that the next phase of growth in the telecommunications industry will be driven not merely by connectivity but by Artificial Intelligence (AI), coding, and digital innovation.

Speaking in an interview on an Accra-based radio station, Mr. Blewett stressed that while strong telecom networks remain the backbone of innovation, the real transformation lies in the platforms and solutions that ride on these networks.

“The real growth in telecoms won’t just come from providing connectivity. It will come from the platforms, solutions and innovations built on top of those networks. Think about it — Facebook, WhatsApp and Uber, none of these would exist without the network. That’s where the future lies,” he explained.

Mr. Blewett highlighted AI and coding as more than industry buzzwords, describing them as engines of economic and social transformation. He argued that the telecommunications sector will remain central to Ghana’s progress, providing the infrastructure that allows businesses, startups, and communities to innovate and thrive in the digital economy.

As part of MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy, he reaffirmed the company’s commitment to leading in digital platforms, fintech services, and inclusive growth. “At MTN, we’re not just chasing profits, we are chasing impact. Our goal is to create opportunities, to enable young people, businesses, and communities to thrive in a digital economy,” he said.

MTN Ghana, the market leader in the country’s telecom industry, continues to expand its role beyond connectivity. With a strong focus on digital financial services and youth empowerment, the company says it is positioning itself as a catalyst for innovation in Ghana and across Africa.
